Santhosam “Happiness”

Finding happiness for yourself, family, and the world.

Hi, my name is Nathan D Duvall and this is the first episode of Lucid Pilot. A music and conversation podcast where we allow the subconscious to take us on a trip around the world. All genres melting into one. We also place a high priority on balance and equity so you will find an exciting array of powerful female artists you might not know.

Since this is the first show, feel free to send your friends back here to understand why Lucid Pilot is important and how to navigate the world. This show is an extension of the long format program called Lucid birthed on Asheville FM community station WSFM-LP 103.3 in Asheville, NC. Spotify and other dsps have specific rules that don’t allow me to produce exactly what I want YET…so you can find the long format version of Lucid at www.ashevillefm.org/shows/lucid and catalogued shows on Mixcloud. You can always navigate to Lucidpilot.com for all information and learn how to listen as you wish. Links are in bio.

Why is Lucid Pilot important to you and me. Because in this world you can relax and allow your subconscious to guide you. Let go, be in the moment, and the artists you hear, the stories that are told, will inspire you to action in your waking life.

I’ll give you an example right now. Say, when you are researching a new doctor, or canvassing  universities for your young adult, or even deciding what kind of sherpa is going to help you summit K2…you need an experienced guide. Someone with a reputation for positive results….I’m that guide. You might not even know it, but its possible I’ve inspired you to act already. Are you a fan of Lord Of The Rings, Harry Potter, Call Of Duty, Led Zeppelin, The Celtics, The Lakers, Wimbledon,The Olympics, NASCAR, or World Cup…I’ve chosen, produced, or published music as an anchor for all those entities and got you off your ass to enjoy what you love.

With every fibre of my being I want to play you MY music. I want to allow my ego to show you why I should be your guide with songs from my catalgoue. But, that’s not what Lucid Pilot is about… is it. In life..when it comes down to it all that matters is now. So if an alien appeared before me right now and wanted to know what song they should take into the outer reaches of space to represent the human condition…I would play this song, by revolutionary new artist Priya Ragu, released in September of this year 2021…its called “Santhosam” and it translates from Sri Lankan language Tamil to mean “Happiness” This is Santhosam by Priya Ragu from her release damnshetamil on Lucid Pilot:

How ‘bout that! If you’re listening to the free version of Spotify you got a quick :30 second bite and if you;re a paying subscriber you heard “Santhosam” in it’s entirety.

Priya Ragu and her family left wartorn Sri Lanka for St. Gallen, Switzerland and she was raised in a highly creative family alongside her talented brother, Japhna Gold,  who produced her mixtape damnshetamil. Somewhat similar to the relationship between Billie Ellish and her brother Finneas.  In fact this song we just heard, “Santhosam”, is a collaborative effort written

between Priya, her parents, and bother Japhna. Dad is on tabla. A full on family affair. Apparently, they were taught yoga and meditation by a guru and spiritual master who helped them as a family find happiness and as a group Priya would say, “They became more chill.”

Now the reason I say Priya is a revolutionary is because she is similar to Aretha Franklin, Elvis, Ray Charles, or even Barbara Mandrell. She infuses secular music with a devotional vibe and sounds of South Asia making her style a new hybrid….Check this out from the damnshetamil release and completely different from “Santhosam”…It’s called Lockdown and you’re listening to the Lucid Pilot podcast.

Is that a treat or what. Priya Ragu doing “Lockdown”. You can hear from the lyrics she’s a young woman expressing her desires in a natural and mature way that isn’t exploitative or demeaning in any way. We all have needs and desires and Priya did it gracefully. And I say that because she comes from a strict background where her father was not pleased to hear that his lovely daughter had aspirations for a recording career after falling in love with the music of Lauryn Hill. Priya is accomplishing a ton. She’s expressing her feelings of desire, still being exciting and provocative, hopefully keeping her parents somewhat sane…or as she says more chill…and on top of it expressing herself as a woman of the world from Sri Lankin tamil descent. That’s revolutionary.

And you know who else noticed that…insanely popular UK band Jungle. Here’s her collaboration with Jungle called, Goodbye My Love” from Loving in Stereo.

That was so good. Love that flange effect making her swirling around your ear buds and speakers. Well I set out to make a super quick episode and ended up going off on one of my favorite new artists Priya Ragu. We’ll have her on the show eventually. Be patient. As a refresher you heard Santhosam and Lockdown from Priyas 2021 debut damnshestamil and her collaboration with UK it band Jungle called Goodbye My Love.

A breakdown of each episode is up on the LucidPilot.com site. If you would like to support Lucid Pilot and allow me to bring you more awesome episodes please consider being a patron at Patreon.com.
